Audio for fishing filmmaking will make or break your vidoes. You can have the slickest slo-mo on the planet, if the audio is bad, people leave. As a musician in a former life, the audio is more important than the video. The soundscape, voice attenuation all play a part in making your video awesome. People will tolerate poor video if the audio is clear. The opposite? Nope!
Audio for fishing videography is different than audio in a recording studio. Of course it's is the same on a strategic level, but on a tactical level it is very different. A recording studio is a perfect. On the river or in the woods, nothing is perfect. So your'e already behind the eight ball.
Audio in fishing filmmaking is best done with a variety of microphones to fit the situation:
1. Shotgun microphones for selective sound.
2. Stereo microphones for ambient sound.
3. Lavaliere microphones for voice isolation in any direction.
4. Dynamic heldheld microphone for voiceover work in a less than ideal acoustic environment.
Fishing filmmaking audio takes everything I learned in music and applies it is a very different way. Everything on camera light, mobile, thus it's more expensive, heavier audio processing in every smaller packages.
How to do mirrorless filmmaking audio: be sure to get a couple good microphones for the situation you find yourself in the most. Then get a good preamp like the DXA Micro Pro. This will replace the camera's built-in audio preamp and give you far better sound without compromising your ability to fight and catch fish.
